Support by Tokyo Metropolitan Government

Why not start up a business in Tokyo, a city of endless possibilities?

Invest Tokyo, an official program run by Tokyo Metropolitan Government aims to attract foreign founders to consider Tokyo as the location for establishing a company, therefore help Tokyo grow employment and contribute to Japan’s GDP. Why Tokyo: 50 reasons

The Tokyo One-Stop Business Establishment Center (TOSBEC) is a center jointly administered by the Japanese government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

The center runs free seminars such as Tokyo Business Start-up Seminar, an information session where entrepreneurs can meet business experts to get face-to-face consultation free of charge.

Participants can learn about how to start and expand a business in Japan, and get information on company registration, filing procedures, fundraising, etc. Check out the next seminar schedule here.

For those who do not speak Japanese, interpretation and translation services in multiple languages are also provided.

The main TOSBEC location is in Akasaka at 7F of JETRO headquarters, with two satellite locations one in Shibuya (inside Plug and Play Shibuya) and one in Marunouchi.

For entrepreneurs who already have had startup experiences elsewhere, and are considering to open a branch office in Tokyo, this one-stop consultation can speed up the paperwork and immigration visa etc.

For first-time entrepreneurs, I think it would be a bit more difficult to fully benefit from this service if it is too early in the process. Even with this free one-stop support center, there is the behind-the-scenes work still need to be done by the founder, in order to better benefit from this consultation service.
